OMV Petrom SA is the largest integrated oil and gas group in South East Europe, with an annual hydrocarbon production of approximately 55 million boe in 2019.
The company is active along the entire value chain of energy: from oil and gas exploration and production, to refining and distribution of fuels and, further, to electricity generation, as well as the commercialization of natural gas and electricity.
The OMV Petrom Group has a refining capacity of 4.5 mn tons/year and operates an 860 MW high efficiency power plant. With approximately 800 filling stations at the end of 2019, OMV Petrom is a key player in the oil products retail markets in Romania and its neighboring countries.
From 2005 to 2019, investments for the consolidation and modernization of OMV Petrom amounted to approximately EUR 15.3 bn Euro. The total contribution to the state budget reached 30.4 bn Euro in the period of 2005-2019.
Our key strategic project remains the development of discoveries in Neptun Deep block. From 2008 to end 2019, together with the partner, co-titleholder and operator, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Romania Ltd (EMEPRL), we invested in excess of USD 1.5 bn for two 3D seismic acquisition campaigns (2009; 2012-2013) and two drilling campaigns with 8 wells drilled.
Exploration in the Romanian continental shelf of the Black Sea started in 1969. The first hydrocarbon discovery was in 1980, and the first production started in 1987. Currently, OMV Petrom has one exploration, development and production license in the shallow waters (Istria block), with a production of approximately 25,000 boe/day, or 17% of the group’s domestic production in 2019.
Starting 2007, OMV Petrom integrated the principles of corporate responsibility within its business strategy. To date, the company allocated more than EUR 65.5 mn for the development of communities in Romania, focusing on environmental protection, education, health and local economic development. “Andrei’s School” is the main platform for community involvement.
OMV, one of Austria’s largest listed industrial companies, holds a 51.01% share in OMV Petrom. The Romanian state, via the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, holds 20.64% of OMV Petrom shares, Fondul Proprietatea holds 9.99% and 18.35% are free float on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
